What is a tape light?

Characterized by an adhesive backing, tape lights, also known as strip lights, are flat, flexible circuit boards containing SMD LEDs. These low voltage LED fixtures provide perfect accent lighting or task lighting in many different applications, including:

  • Under cabinets
  • Under shelves
  • Around the ceiling coving
  • On stairs
  • On furniture
  • Around picture frames
  • Behind TV and computer screens

Strip lights also have outdoor uses, such as lighting a deck, under an awning, or around the roof and windows of your home, and you can even put a waterproof LED strip light fixture in the pool. When using strip lights outdoors, make sure they have an IP rating of 65 or above. Even if you plan to put your lights under an awning or covering, you still need to choose outdoor-rated lights that can withstand water splashing or running down. An IP65 rating ensures the lights stay waterproof and protect them from the temperature of the surfaces they adhere to, while an IP68 rating indicates that the lights can completely submerge underwater.

What tape lights does Diode offer?
