Track lighting, sometimes called rail lighting, refers to a type of ceiling light that contains individual lights along a track, or rail. The lights slide along the track, and you can adjust the angle and position, which allows you to choose whether you want to focus on a specific spot or a general area. They prevent glare and can operate as ambient lighting, accent lighting, wall wash lighting, and task lighting. Using an LED track light helps you save energy because LEDs use less energy compared to an incandescent, fluorescent, or halogen light bulb.
Types of track heads include cylinder, round back, pinhole head, cube, octagonal, stepped, multistepped, wireback, gimbal, clasp-fingered, barn door, and pendant light. Styles include fixed track lighting, swing arm, monorail, swing arm, and linear track lighting, and you can mix and match different styles to get your desired configuration. Track lights typically operate on line voltage, while monorail systems operate on low voltage.
A modular power distribution system for low voltage lighting, the PowerTRAX track lighting system works in applications such as task, retail, or display lighting. Diode LED makes track systems that include connector modules, rails, and extension cables for attaching tape lighting to a track, with all parts in black and white. The rail has a length of 39.37 inches and the connector has a length of 1.54 inches, while extension cable lengths include 39 in. and 6 in.
To install the system, first mount the track to the surface. Next, attach the modules (up to 15). After that, connect the power and light engine. Make sure all module connections face the right direction or else they will not function. After you install the modules, turn the power on at the circuit breaker, and you’re ready to go!
