Can I use a light dimmer to control my fan speed?

Standard dimmer switches should never be used for fan speed control. Lighting dimmers work by reducing the voltage sent to a light bulb. When voltage is reduced the speed does not change, but the motor will burn out, causing a major fire hazard. Be sure to see if your dimmer is compatible with ceiling fans by checking the fine print written directly on the wall mounted control.

Can my fan be reversed via Wall Control?

Universal control systems do not allow reversal from the wall mount. The reversal switch on the fans motor housing is the only way to reverse the direction of the fan. Some smart fan and related technology can change the direction, but that is typically not the case.

Can I use a wall control to control multiple fans?

Yes, if you purchase a control switch with the proper amperage. The typical ceiling fan uses 1 amp so if you're setting up multiple fans for one mount you will need to add the amperage together.

What is the difference between a single pole and 3-way switch?

Single pole switches are most commonly used in home lighting circuits to control one or more lights or fixtures from a single location, such as the entrance to a room. Three pole or three-way switches are used to control one or more lights or fixtures from multiple locations, such as the top and bottom of a flight of stairs.

Single pole and three pole switches look the same when installed but are used for different purposes. Closer inspection reveals that while a single pole switch has two terminals, a three pole switch has three.
