Named after their creator, Phillips Lighting, PL bulbs used to refer to fluorescent bulbs with twin tubes. Now, this style of light bulb refers to plug-in bulbs that include a pin style base. However, some options now use a screw type base. LED PL lamps offer an energy efficient replacement for compact fluorescent lamps. You can find bulbs that install vertically or horizontally.
EnVision LED PL lamps can work in 2-pin diagonal or 4-pin sockets. They offer a 360-degree spectrum and replace existing fluorescent G24 lamps. They replace existing lamps by plugging into or bypassing the existing ballast. EnVision PL bulbs can install both vertically and horizontally.
Instead of a threaded screw base, pin base bulbs may include between one and four pins that stick out of the bottom of the light bulb. The type of base tells you what type of pin configuration the bulb uses. These bases start with a letter, typically the letter ‘G’ for pin bases, followed by numbers. These numbers indicate the number of millimeters between each pin.
You can often find PL bulbs with GU24 or G24 pin-bases.
You can also find PL lighting options that use a screw-in E26 base. Though not a pin base, E26 medium bases work in many household fixtures.
Hybrid PL bulbs can work using the existing ballast in a fixture or direct wire to run using line voltage. Hybrid installations allow you to continue using the ballast on the fixture until it dies. Then you can remove the ballast and switch to direct wire.
EnVision LED offers 7W or 11W PL lamps that use a G24 base. These bulbs can install in vertical or horizontal applications. They can also install using the existing ballast or choose to bypass the ballast completely. Unlike fluorescent bulbs, EnVision’s LED PL lamps require no warmup time. They turn on instantly!
They come in two wattages, their LED 7W or LED 11W, to replace existing 13W, 18W, or 20W lamps. These PL bulbs work well in recessed lighting, security lighting, and sconces in both residential and commercial applications.
The color temperature of a light bulb indicates the color of the white light emitted by a bulb. EnVision offers PL lamps that give off a color temperature of 3000K, 4000K, or 5000K.
3000K offers a warm white light that works well in homes and hospitality environments. 4000K offers a neutral white light that works well for task lighting. 5000K gives off a crisp white similar to daylight.
