What is a wall pack?

A wall pack light functions as exterior wall lighting that mounts flush against a building to illuminate the surrounding area. Because they install outside, these fixtures usually include a weatherproof rating.

Wall pack lights typically see use in commercial applications, but you can also use them in residential locations. You can often find them used as security lighting for parking lots, but they can also create visibility around walkways, pathways, and other pedestrian areas.

What is a non-cutoff wall pack?

Wall packs come in different light distributions, such as cutoff, non-cutoff, and semi-cutoff.

Non-cutoff, or forward throw, wall packs emit light forwards and outwards. They work well brightening large areas like entrances, garages, schools, and other public areas.

Cutoff, or full cutoff, wall packs brighten small to medium areas. These lights direct light downward. This helps reduce the amount of light shining upwards, which helps reduce light pollution. They work well brightening narrow passageways or as security lighting.

Semi-cutoff fixtures emit light forward and down. They still distribute light over a wide area and serve as a middle ground between cut off and non-cutoff fixtures. They work well brightening entryways and walkways.

Additionally, you can find rotating wall packs. EnVision LED offers rotating wall packs that can rotate the modules 360-degrees to brighten the desired area. They offer single and double module fixtures.

What is the difference between a photocell and a sensor?

Both photocells and motion or occupancy sensors offer a hassle-free way to turn your lights on and off while saving money on electrical costs in the process!

A photocell detects ambient light levels in the area. This allows it to automatically turn lighting fixtures on when the sun goes down and off when the sun comes up again. Motion and occupancy sensors turn the fixture on when they sense movement. After a period of time in which they do not detect movement, they shut the fixture off.
