General Electric offers garbage disposal and provides advice on how to reset your garbage disposal. The steps are below:

  • Turn the wall switch to OFF.
  • Then wait two to five minutes for the motor to cool down.
  • After waiting for the allotted time, depress the red reset button. This should reset your garbage disposal.

How to clean a garbage disposal?

Cleaning your garbage disposal is important to maintaining its efficiency and preventing odors. General Electric provides a cleaning guide for your garbage disposal.

Below are the steps that they provide.

  • First turn off the garbage disposal by unplugging the unit or switching off the circuit breaker to avoid any accidents.
  • Once the garbage disposal is off, run hot water down the disposal for about a minute. Then pour dish soap down the disposal and scrub the upper part of the disposal including the rubber piece.

  • After the 15 minutes is up, flush the disposal with hot water to wash away any leftover debris.
  • Then put a handful of ice cubes and a tablespoon of rock salt into your disposal.
  • Turn on the disposal and run cold water.
  • Finally, create a citrus smell for your disposal by cutting a lemon or lime into small pieces and placing them inside one at a time.
