Flush mount ceiling lights install directly against the ceiling. Traditional flush mounts may feature a dome or mushroom shape but can also offer a more decorative style. To change the light bulb in a traditional flush mount light, you often need to unscrew the glass or the housing.
Flush mount fixtures can work in residential and commercial applications. They work well in a living room, bedroom, office, closet, hallway, or kitchen to add ambient lighting.
A big difference between flush mount and semi flush mount lighting lies in the way they mount. Flush mount lights mount directly to the ceiling while semi-flush mount fixtures install close to the ceiling but leave a small opening between the base and the fixture, between 4 and 8 inches. Semi-flush mounts also often feature a more decorative design than flush mounts.
