What is a gas stove heater?

Requiring no tending or mess, gas stove fireplace heaters provide a traditional appearance and efficient heat. Used for zone heating, these heaters can warm a specific room or zone with ease. These easy-to-use heaters mean there’s no need for chopping or storing wood. You can light these heaters with only the push of a button or flick of a switch.

Gas fireplace stove units, sometimes called freestanding stoves, use either natural gas or liquid propane as a heat source. Natural gas typically connects to the natural gas lines that already exist in the building. If you don’t have access to natural gas, use liquid propane as an alternative. Liquid propane stores in tanks, sometimes installed underground.

How does a gas stove heater work?

Gas stove heaters use either natural gas or liquid propane as a fuel source. When this fuel source combusts, it creates flames and heat.

These options can use a few different venting systems, including vented and ventless options. Vented gas units include the popular direct vent options. Direct vent stoves use a closed-combustion system, meaning they remain sealed off using a glass panel and a coaxial pipe. This vent pipe supplies air from the outside which the unit then uses for combustion. Many gas stove units now use a ceramic glass panel to provide a clear view of the flames and reduce glare. Additionally, ceramic glass does not get as hot as tempered glass.

Ventless, also known as vent-free, stoves offer a high rate of efficiency, up to around 99.9 percent. However, instead of venting the fumes of combustion out of the home, they remain in the room.

Gas units can pose a dangerous safety risk if not installed properly. Please have a professional install the unit. Never install any gas units without the proper training and certifications.

What is the difference between a gas stove and a gas fireplace?

Gas stoves remain freestanding while a fireplace must wall mount. Gas stoves offer a traditional design reminiscent of old wood-burning stoves. Gas fireplaces feature a sleek design and typically wall mount or recess into the wall.

A gas stove can radiate heat from all four sides while a fireplace remains limited on which sides can release heat. Usually, they only release heat from the front. Additionally, stoves can typically warm a larger area than a fireplace.

What freestanding gas stoves does HomElectrical carry?

HomElectrical offers a selection of quality freestanding gas stove heaters from brands like Napoleon. Napoleon gas stoves offer large viewing areas to ensure a stunning view of both the flames and realistic, hand-painted logs. Because they don’t require a chimney, you can install them in more places than a traditional fireplace. However, most still require venting.
