Weld compounds from J-B WELD are designed to create a permanent bond for dry and clean alloys, like metal. The substance will change into a dark gray color after 4-6 hours revealing that it has set. If you are wanting it to be fully set before you proceed any further in your applications then you are going to need to wait between 15-24 hours. Even after this weld compound has been set it can be shaped, tapped, filed, sanded, and drilled.
