How long can bleach be stored?

In fact, Clorox bleach CAN expire. Bleach can have a shelf life of about one year if stored properly. Be sure to keep bleach away from extreme hot or cold temperatures.

What is the difference between a disinfectant and a sanitizer?

Sanitizing refers to the process of reducing the growth of a variety of fungus and bacteria. Sanitizers do not necessarily kill the bacteria that can cause diseases and viruses. Disinfectant, on the other hand, is concentrated with more bleach and can kill fungi, and other bacteria that can cause viruses.

What shouldn't I mix with bleach?

  • Ammonia and bleach
    This mixture produces toxic gases called chloramines. Exposure can cause coughing, tearing, chest pain, throat, nose and eye irritation, and other symptoms

  • Bleach and Isopropyl alcohol
    Chloroform, hydrochloric acid, and other compounds form from this combination.

  • Bleach and acid-based cleaner
    This mixture creates toxic gases and fumes, like chlorine gas, that can be dangerous to humans. At low levels, this almost always irritates the eyes, throat, and nose. Issues like breathing problems and even death occur at various levels of exposure.

  • Bleach and Vinegar
    Chlorine gas forms and similar side effects to mixing acids and bleach occur.
