How tall should an outdoor lantern be?
How tall your outdoor lantern depends on where you place it. If you place a wall lantern at the front door, it should be about a third of the height of the door.
If you place a hanging lantern at the front door, it should be placed about a third of the height of the door.
A wall lantern that is placed above the garage should be about a fourth of the height of the door.
If you want to place the lantern on a walkway, the lantern should be around 14 inches tall. This distributes light evenly throughout the path.
Under awnings is also a place where you can place the outdoor lantern. If you do place them under the awning, the bottom of the lantern should be about 7 feet above the ground.
