Where to position outdoor wall light?

Positioning your outdoor wall lights in the right place is key when adding to your ambiance. It is important to know what you want to do with your outdoor lights. They can be used for adding more light to an area or simply for style.

Below are outdoor lighting options and recommendations for their placements.

  • Wall Lanterns: Wall Lanterns are great for being placed next to entryways or garage doors. If the lantern is next to the door, it should be one-third the height of the door. If the lantern is on each side of the door, then it should be one-fourth the height of the door. Make sure the lantern is 66” above the ground.
  • Flush Mounts: Flush mounts should be placed above doorways or entryways. It is recommended that they are one-fourth the width and height of the doorway.
  • Pendant Lights: It is recommended that outdoor pendant lights should be one-fifth the height of the door. The light should hang at least seven feet from the ground. Make sure to have at least six inches of space between the top of the door and the light fixture.
  • Chandelier Lights: Chandeliers being hung over outdoor seating areas should hang at least seven feet above the ground and is centered above the seating area. The light should also hang at least 34 inches above the seating area.
  • Lamp Posts: When hung lamp posts should be in the ground between one and a half and two feet below the ground. The light fixture should be one-fourth the height of the pole and the pole should be five and half to six and a half.
  • Landscape Lights: Landscape lights should be placed around 6 inches apart from each other.
  • Ceiling Fans: Ceiling fans should be at least 7 feet above the ground and the fan blades should be at least 30 inches from other walls or other surfaces.
  • Area Lights: It is recommended to install area lights about 6 to 8 inches from the ground.

How to install hanging lights?

To install Nuvo’s Vega Outdoor Hanging Light Fixture, follow the assembly and mounting instructions below.

Before starting the installation, read over the instruction manual to have an idea of the process before you start.

  • To start the installation process, turn off the power to the circuit breaker so you will not electrocute yourself while working on the light.
  • Once the power is off, take the parts out of the box and clarify all the parts from the instructions are in the box as well. When all the parts are found, place them on a scratch free surface.
  • Then you should put the glass panels into the frame and fit it using the clips that are provided.
  • Then install the loop to the fixture as well as the bulbs.
  • Once the loop and bulbs are in place, buckle the chain to the fixture and the loop.
  • Secure the mounting bracket to the junction box using the screws from the outlet box.
  • You can use a wire connector to connect the corresponding wires which include the positive and negative wires. The ground wire will connect to the junction box ground port.
  • Finally, secure the canopy to the ceiling junction box using the threaded ring.
  • Once these steps are completed, you can turn the power back on to see if the light works.
