How to install an outdoor light on a brick wall?

While it may seem easy to install outdoor lights, you should call an electrician to do the installation for you. Below are the steps they will take to install the lights.

  • To begin, they turn off the power. Then they ask where you want the light and use a pencil to mark drilling points on the wall to align with the mounting brackets.
  • They then use a drill to create deep enough holes for the screws.
  • Then they put the wall anchors in the holes and put them in place with a hammer.
  • Now they mount the bracket.
  • To mount the bracket, the electrician aligns the mounting bracket against the wall using a level to keep it straight.
  • Then they will use a drill into the marked areas.
  • Once the mounting bracket is in place, the electrician wires the light fixture. This includes attaching the hot wires, neutral wires, and the ground wires.
  • Once the light fixture is wired, the electrician will attach and secure the light fixture to the mounting bracket.
  • To finish the process, the electrician turns on the power and tests the light switch to see if it works.

How big should outdoor wall lights be?

The size of your outdoor wall light depends on the area you want to place it. Below are some sizing options for certain areas of your outdoor space:

  • Front door light sizing: Measure the front door from top to bottom. Divide the height of your front door by 0.33 and 0.25. Once you have the measurements, find a light fixture that measures 0.33 to .025 the height of your front door.
  • Garage light sizing: Use the same 0.33 to 0.25 method for the right size. Measure the garage door height for the correct size.
  • Outdoor Patio and Pool light sizing: For this light sizing use the same 0.33 to 0.25 rule when picking the right size. Measure the nearest door that leads to the house or the garage.
