How to clean a chandelier?
You can clean a chandelier with either the glass on or glass off. Cleaning a chandelier with the glass pieces on is the fastest and easiest choice to do.
Below are the steps to cleaning with the glass on:
- Before cleaning the chandelier, make sure to turn off the electricity.
- Step 1: Prepare the cleaning solution of your choice
- Step 2: Prepare the area. This includes placing thick towels under the chandelier, setting up the ladder, and using cotton gloves to not leave fingerprints.
- Step 3: Apply the cleaning solution to the cloth. When applying the cleaning solution, make sure you use a microfiber cloth or white cotton gloves, so it is damp but not soaked. Never directly spray the cleaning solution onto the chandelier.
- Step 4: Wipe and dry the pieces. Use a damp cloth or glove to wipe each piece of the chandelier. Then dry it with the section of the cloth that is dry to polish it.
Below are the steps to cleaning with the glass off:
- Before taking the glass off, make sure to take a picture of where the pieces go. Make sure to also turn the electricity off before taking apart the chandelier.
- Step 1: Prepare the area. This includes turning off the electricity and allowing the lightbulbs to cool, taking a photo of the chandelier before dismembering it, and placing blankets or towels under the chandelier in case it falls.
- Step 2: Remove the pieces and dust. Remove the glass or crystal pieces from the chandelier with needle-nose pliers. Once the pieces are removed, use a microfiber cloth to wipe dust and dirt off the fixtures and bulbs.
- Step 3: Prepare the cleaning solution of your choice.
- Step 4: Wash pieces. Wear white cotton gloves to prevent fingerprints and dampen the cloth or cotton gloves you are using with the cleaning solution. Then wipe the piece clean.
- Step 5: Dry all the pieces. Polish the pieces dry with a dry section of cloth or the other side of the glove. Place a thick towel on the ground and set the pieces of cloth down once they are cleaned and dry.
- Step 6: Reassemble the chandelier. Do this by wearing clean pairs of cotton gloves to prevent smudges. Use the photos you took to reassemble the chandelier.
