How to convert can light to pendant lighting?

Converting a can light to a pendant light is not a difficult task with a recessed lighting converter kit. While it is not difficult to convert the lights, please consult a licensed technician to perform the conversion.

Below are the steps the technician will follow to convert the lights:

  • Step 1: The electrician will remove the light bulb from the can light fixture.
  • Step 2: Then they will measure the height that you will want your pendant to hang.
  • Step 3: Once you tell them the height, they will loosen the compression nut on the light kit.
  • Step 4: The electrician will then pull the cord through the canopy until the light fixture hangs to your preferred height. They will also put the excess cord around the spindle bracket.
  • Step 5: Then they will screw the adapter into the light bulb socket like they are putting in a light bulb.
  • Step 6: They will then raise the canopy until it is flush with the ceiling and will screw the compression nut back into the canopy.
  • Step 7: The electrician will then remove the socket ring and slide a cover over the socket. Then they will replace the socket ring.
  • Step 8: Then they will screw in the light bulb and the conversion will be complete.

What is a pendant light?

An LED pendant light fixture is a type of light suspended from the ceiling with a chain, cord, or rod. Pendant lights differ from chandeliers because they only have a single bulb incorporated into its fixture. Chandeliers on the other hand have multiple light bulbs.

Pendant lights are common in kitchens, hallways, and staircases. Shop Nuvo’s Faro Series Pendant lights today at HomElectrical!
