Can you convert a can light to pendant?

Converting a can light to a pendant light should be done by a licensed electrician. Electricians follow specific steps to convert can lights to pendant lights. Below are the simple steps they will follow:

  • Step 1: It is recommended that the electrician turn the electricity off before beginning the conversion.
  • Step 2: To start the conversion, the electrician will remove the bulb and the plaster ring from the can light.
  • Step 3: Then they will screw a converter into the light socket.
  • Step 4: Once the converter is in the light socket, the electrician will attach the bracket to the can light.
  • Step 5: They will then place the cover plate on the fixture.
  • Step 6: Once the plate is on, the electrician will connect the wires using wire nuts.
  • Step 7: Then they will screw in the bracket and adjust the height of the lamp.
  • Step 8: When the height is adjusted, the electrician will put on the decorative plate and screw in the pendant.
  • Step 9: The electrician will then attach the glass shade and bulb. Once the bulb is in place, they will turn the power back on and test to see if the light works.
