Downrods range in diameter and length depending on the ceiling fan and application. These extensions are not universal. When adding a downrod to your ceiling fan, make note that the length will not fit just any fixture. It will be made specifically for the brand you have.A room with ceiling height between 7-8 feet is not recommended to have a ceiling fan. A downrod that hangs too far off the ceiling can be a hazard for your space. Consider your ceiling height to find the length of the downrod you need. To measure, take the height of the ceiling, subtract the height of the ceiling fan, and then subtract the height you want to hang the fan.
Ceiling height (in feet) minus 9 feet (includes the fan height) = Downrod length
Ceiling Height | Downrod Recommendation |
---|---|
Less than 8 feet | Not Recommended to have a downrod. Use a flush mount fan instead. |
9 feet | 12 Inches |
10 feet | 12-18 Inches |
11 feet | 18-24 Inches |
