What is a passive infrared sensor?

Passive infrared sensor technology measures the light heat that radiates off of people and objects. They are commonly used in presence or vacancy detectors to offer automatically activated lighting systems.

What is the difference between occupancy sensors and vacancy sensors?

Occupancy sensors will turn the lights on automatically when it detects motion, and will shut off when it detects a vacancy in the area. Vacancy sensors require manual activation, but will turn off automatically when the area has been vacated.
