Air handlers circulate warm or cool air through ductwork in residential or commercial buildings. An evaporator coil inside the air handler absorbs heat and removes humidity from the air. A blower then circulates the conditioned air through the ductwork of the building.
An air handler works as part of a split system central air conditioner or electric heat pump HVAC system.

Depending on the layout of your building, they usually function as an indoor aspect of a heating and cooling system. They run with the outdoor unit for an air conditioning system.
